Even after being freed from her contractual obligations, Cris Cyborg continues to face criticism from UFC boss Dana White. While their relationship was never really amicable, the turning point definitely appears to be when Cyborg refused a rematch with Amanda Nunes.
This led to White publicly calling her out after she beat Felicia Spencer in the UFC 240 Co-Main event. White has waved all exclusive and negotiation rights, although I can still see a solid next deal for Cyborg.
Seven Opponents Declined to Fight Gane
Highly touted French Heavyweight Ciryl Gane will make his debut at UFC Uruguay this week, despite a number of fighters declining to fight him. The close friend of Francis Ngannou made headlines overnight, claiming that 7 potential opponents rejected a fight with him.
He does have a reputation as a thunderous hitter, although I think more fighters are somewhat hesitant of the uncertain Uruguayan conditions. Either way, Gane’s debut will be something to keep an eye on this weekend.
Holm and Pennington Rematch Set for UFC 243
Former Champion Holly Holm is returning to the scene of her infamous knockout over Ronda Rousey. She will have a rematch with rival Raquel Pennington at UFC 243 in Melbourne, a card headlined by Whittaker vs Adesanya.
A few recent defeats has Holm now just 5-5 in her UFC career, while Pennington sits at 7-4. With a lack of real challengers for Amanda Nunes, either of these women could be in line for another title shot in the near future.
