The date and opponent for Jessica Andrade’s first title defence has now been announced. While there were a number of decent contenders to choose from, the UFC has gone with rising Chinese star Weili Zhang. Zhang is 19-1 in her MMA career and will be the first Chinese fighter to fight for a UFC belt.
The 115-pound title fight will take place in Shenzhen, China on August 31st at the UFC on ESPN+ 15 event. With such high stakes for both of these women, this is an entertaining fight that should garner a lot of attention.
Cowboy Cerrone Feeling Better
Amazingly, it appears as though Donald Cerrone didn’t break his orbital bone in his UFC 238 clash with Tony Ferguson. Cerrone took to Instagram to confirm that he is in a good bill of health and ready for his next challenge. Despite what seemed like a horrific injury, he suffered no broken bones or a cracked orbital.
His loss to Ferguson did snap an impressive 3-fight win streak, although the quality of the fight did earn Fight of the Night honors. Even with this loss to Ferguson, Cowboy should have many potential challengers, including a money fight with Conor McGregor.
Chas Kelly Out of UFC Minneapolis
Chas Kelly was keen for his first UFC win in two and a half years at UFC Minneapolis, although an injury setback means this will have to wait. He was set to fight against Jordan Griffin on June 29, although feared that he couldn’t get a proper training camp in.
At this stage, it is unknown whether Griffin will remain on the card against a different opponent. That said, this is still a very stacked card that features the likes of Ngannou, Dos Santos, Benavidez, and Maia.
