UFC 237 takes place in Rio this weekend, with Jared Cannonier and Anderson Silva as the co-main event. The American veteran is very confident of a win, claiming that he will ‘exterminate’ Silva this weekend.
The odds would support this claim, with Cannonier opening as a heavy -190 favorite. Silva admittedly hasn’t been in great form but should be tough to beat in front of his home fans. Either way, this is a fight that UFC fans will be watching with great interest.
Former Light Heavyweight Anthony Johnson Arrested
After being a top Light Heavyweight contender just a few short years ago, Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson has again been arrested for domestic battery. His ex-girlfriend alleged that he picked her up ‘using a football hold’ during an argument. Johnson is set to appear in court on June 6 for the matter to be resolved.
It isn’t the first time that domestic violence issues have plagued Johnson’s career. In 2014, the mother of his children claimed that Johnson had struck her and knocked out two of her front teeth. This all but rules out a return to the octagon for Johnson, who retired in April 2017.
Dana White Open to Jordan Burroughs Fight
UFC President Dana White says he would welcome Jordan Burroughs to the UFC if he wants to try MMA. Burroughs is one of the most decorated amateur wrestlers in history, winning 5 world championships and an Olympic gold.
More and more wrestlers are wanting to try their hand at MMA and Burroughs could be a huge get for the UFC. Burroughs added fuel to this fire, saying that he definitely wants to try his hand at the cage one day. With excellent wrestlers like Ben Askren joining the UFC, this is a trend I see continuing for the foreseeable future.
